I just purchased Nascar 2003.

Where can I download starter setups so I can at least keep up with the
field in Sierra's Multiplayer server.

TIA

LOL! If you expect to be good "out of the gate" so to speak, you have
another thing coming.

It takes PRACTICE to get good. It takes PRACTICE to develop setups.

How do you think the fastest guys did it? Certainly not right "out of the
box"...

There are no "shortcuts" in this game, I hate to tell you.

I'm not the full time hardcore racer like you seem to be. I just want
to have some fun. Like the other guys who have posted setup links, I
can't even keep up with ai players.

Sure lots of PRACTICE helps in anything, but I do have a day job and I
don't spend all day on the PC.

So next time you post, try not to be so critical. It's people like
you, who discourage other people from having fun with this game.

Since I didn't write the original reply, I can't comment on how much
serious criticism was intended. I'd like to think that everyone had
only the best intentions...

That said, most of the tracks have an <easy>, <fast> and <expert>
setup available. Whether or not any of these will allow _you_ to keep
up with the field in multiplayer really depends on the skill of the
other drivers and, of course, your skill. I have raced against people
who just disappear into the distance at the drop of the green flag.
Using the same setup, I have run against people who I have managed to
lap in the course of a 30 lap race at Michigan. Obviously, it's not
the setup. It has to the skill of the other drivers. I run same
laptimes in both events, so I know I'm not faster in one race than
the other.

It would be nice if drivers with higher skill levels would run only
in higher scored events. That way, if you joined a race with a skill
level of 0-10, you know you'd only have people with a zero score
competing against you. However, all you can set, AFAIK, is the lowest
threshhold. You can't stop people with higher scores entering. (And
I'm not sure I'd want to. It helps to be given a driving lesson from
time to time -- lets you know how high the bar really is.)

Don't get discouraged. There's a lot more to it than driving fast
laps. Handling traffic is a huge thing to learn. Gas and tire
management, making pitstops, drafting...

And practice. Lots and lots of practice. Did you notice the question
from Uwe about lap times at Melbourne in F1C? He says he's got
something like 200 laps in and he's still five seconds off the
laptimes of the fast lappers. And Uwe is no slowpoke! I've been up
against him once or twice and he makes me look turtle slow. (Of
course, lots of people make me look slow. <sigh>)

All the best,

Outdated setups, but are still fast enough to easily get good times.

If you find a place, let me know. I can't even keep up with the AI, let alone
real drivers on MP...

Start with the easy setups and get some consistent lap times. One track at a
time. It does take practice. The Expert setups, which you can download are
good. Check out the link below. I'd get them and tweak them to your liking.
I race N4 and I run up front. When I started racing N2003 I was a lapper and
still am at times. This is not a jump in the car and drive game. I've never
raced Arcade in N2003 but you might want to try that avenue.
